  • 1.  APIC V10 - Analytics are not visible in APIM

    Hello Experts,

We have successfully installed APIC v10 and all the management subsystems are up and running fine now but we are not getting the analytics data in APIM analytics.

All the DNS are checked and its working as expected
TCP connection is working from Datapower to Analytics ip and host name over 443
We have tried removing and adding back gateways in cloud manager.

Below are the few doubts I have and need clarification on that.

    1. We have defined analytics-client at the time of ISO creation so we are using internal storage. Is there any way to check and confirm this ?

    2. We have not defined internal storage space before deployment of analytics subsystem, Is it a requirement and can we define it now ? If yes how can we do it ?

    3. Do we need to create analytics-extra-values.yaml file and define anything on that ? or that's optional ?

Hello Sarada and thank you for your post!

It sounds like you have installed with VMware. Let me know if this assumption is not correct.

    Let's start with your questions:

    1. You can verify the settings that have been used when installing the analytics subsystem with the following command:

    ./apicup subsys get <analytics-subsystem-name>

If ingestion-only is set to true then you are using internal storage.

    2. It is not required that you set internal storage space before deployment. When using VMware I believe that the storage space is dictated by the disk available to the VM, which you can alter via VMware. I would recommend that you review this Knowledge Center topic if you have not already: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSMNED_v10/com.ibm.apic.install.doc/analytics_plan_est_space_vm.html#analytics_plan_est_space_vm__master_storage

    3. You do not need to create an analytics-extra-values.yaml file. This file is required if you need to override deployment settings that are not exposed via the installer (apicup).

Now to the problem you are experiencing:

There is a known issue when enabling the message queue in v10 that can cause analytics to fail to ingest data from the gateway. Have you set enable-message-queue to true when deploying analytics? This also has implications for storage space so I'll wait for you to confirm this one way or the other before we explore other potential causes.

    Kind regards,

    Mark

    Hello Mark,

Thank you for your response, Issue is resolved now by adding analytics-client and analytics-ingestion in DataPower host alias.
Yes, We have installed with VMware and not enabled message queue for this installation.

If possible please let me know why it was required to add analytics-client and analytics-ingestion in DataPower host alias ?
If it is required and mandatory then its not mentioned anywhere in the Documentation which we followed.

    Kind Regards,
    Sarada Sahoo

Mark, could the following link be a good source for Sarada's issue.  The link addresses common issues with working with the message queue, which is a configuration matter.  Also, some of the material I read indicated that one has to specify the analytics solution one wants to configure.

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSMNED_2018/com.ibm.apic.cmc.doc/tapim_analytics_configuring_message_queue.html
