  • 1.  Apache Tomcat 8.0 cannot be started up in RBD 9.5.1 after Windows Server upgraded to 2019

    Posted Mon January 08, 2024 05:10 PM

I have an EGL project with IBM Rational® Business Developer version 9.5.1 and Apache Tomcat 8.0, Java 1.8.

After the windows Server upgraded to 2019, The Apache Tomcat server 8.0 server cannot be started up. Then I set up Apache Tomcat 8.5, but the IBM Rational Business Developer 8.5.1 does not have the Apache Tomcat 8.5 option for the runtime.

    I need your instruction:

    1) Do I really need to updated the Apache Tomcat to 8.5, and IBM Rational Business Developer to 9.6.1, or it is just a window setting error during the windows upgrade.

    2) If I need to do the update, IBM Rational Business Developer 9.6.1 and Apache Tomcat 8.5.97 is good for Windows Server 2019 ? I did the search online, no detail found. Many sounds good description are not accessible.

    Look forward for your instruction.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hi Eric,

With the original software installed, what kind of error did you have with Tomcat. Do you still have a log?

    Hi Eric,

In general a specific RBD version only supports specific Tomcat-versions, but in each version you have the possibility to add a "generic server". Disadvantage: debugging is probably not supported for that type.

Based on that I would suggest following configuration:

    • workstation:          stick to a Tomcat-version with a supported runtime from within your RBD-version. That way you have EGL-debug support in your development phase.
    • 2019-server(s):    you can install a more recent Tomcat-version if necessary. Use a deployment tool or your home-brew scripts to install your software on that server or add the server as a generic server to RBD to deploy directly from your workstation, depending on your preference.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Bernd ,

A web site mentioned  Tomcat Version - 9.0.37 works on Windows Server 2019 - our development Environment.

the EGL application run server is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.4 (Maipo), I guess  Apache Tomcat 9.0.37 should works on this version of Linux .

Thank you for your help. Could you please provide more instruction?

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hi Eric,

I guess you have a shared repository containing the sources (Git/SVN/RTC/...) and changes of all team members.

My suggestion is to have RBD + Tomcat installed on your workstation.

If your tests are successfull, you send your changes to the repository. If a release is completed, you can deploy a new version of your EAR/WAR to your TST/ACC/PRD Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server.

    Regards,

    Bernd.
