From here you can list the current settings and make changes to both the current settings and the next boot settings. If you change the current settings and test them out, you can then apply the current settings to the next boot settings from this screen. In versions prior to AIX5L, I dont remember if smit had this in it. I dont think it did, that is why I used vmtune.
