I see that our managed systems' (p595) hw clocks are not set to UTC but to UTC+1. When I activate a newly created LPAR and boot a minimal aix (via nim spot, no xntpd) I see this UTC+1 as AIX system time (checked with "date -u". So far, that is what I expected.

However, LPARs that have been running for some time (synchronized by xntpd) have their system time right, even after I reactivate the LPAR and reboot without xntpd. That is not what I expected.
Can anyone explain this? Does the LPAR store its system time between reboots somewhere independent from the hw clock?

    example:
    UTC: 15:00

    lssyscfg -r sys -F name,sys_time
    Server-9119-595-xxxx,04/09/2008 16:00:00

new LPAR, no xntpd: date -u -> 16:00
LPAR that has been synced with ntp before, reactivated, rebooted without xntpd: date -u -> 15:00
    Thanks for your input
    Joachim
