    Hello together,

does anyone have any experience with integrating an Excel file as a data source into a framework manager model?

I have an Excel file with approx. 15,000 lines that can be viewed as a master data file. How I get the file into my model is clear. Now I want to combine the data from the Excel file with transaction data from an Oracle database. A cardinality of 1: N applies from the master data file to the transaction data and vice versa from 0: 1.

When I test the relationship between the tables, nothing happens until Framework Manager freezes.

if you want to use framework manager, there is no way to combine excel and oracle model,
but you can combine excel and oracle if you use "data server" and "data module" instead of framework manager.

That's curious because the IBM Cognos support gave us the hint to try this way. I'll contact them again.

I'd recommend loading the excel file into your oracle database if possible so that you can add the information to Framework Manager. Otherwise, you could add use your framework model package to create a data module and integrate the Excel file there. It would require uploading the Excel file in Cognos Analytics, but it should work as well.

Thanks a lot for your ideas.

The database solution seems to be the best way. Unfortunately there are some organizational Problems :-). My first try was to create a data module. But every time if there was a Change on the Framework Manager model the reports on the data module were invalid. Do you have made other experiences with data module?

I've had very mixed results when trying to use Excel as a data source.  In most cases for us, we used a MS Access DB and added that to the Framework Manager model.  The downside of using either of these is that I believe you are limited to ODBC connections and the direction for CA is JDBC.  Using the uploaded file and a data module would give you more flexible results as pointed out by Jonathan McKnight.  If the Excel file doesn't change much, this should be a good option since you won't have to worry about refreshing the file.
