  • 1.  ACS SQL Sessions Automatic Timeout

    Posted 3 days ago

Currently, users often leave ACS (Access Client Solutions) SQL sessions open after executing their queries. These idle sessions remain connected for extended periods, which may introduce potential security risks and consume unnecessary system resources.
Is there any way to implement a configurable timeout mechanism that automatically disconnects inactive ACS SQL sessions after 15 minutes of inactivity?
    Thanks

    Hi Sami-san,
If you mean ACS's Run SQL script window, you can set timeout after inactive interval.

In, Run SQL script window, open preferences panel, select General tab, and set inactive idel time(1-600min.).

    Dear Sasaki-san

Did you mean the option "Save files after specified period of inactivity" as shown be low?   If so, I see that your response to Sami's question does not serve the security purpose he asked.

There is something like that in Preferences:

    image0.jpeg

This closes open result sets after a given time of inactivity.

I don't know, if you can configure that centrally -  it it should work somehow.

    HTH and kind regards,
    Daniel

    Sami-san,

The parameters I explained are those in Daniel-san's reply. I didn't attach an image because my ACS environment was in Japanese.

    Daniel-san,

    Thank you!

    Dear Sami

Do you have a firewall in front of your IBM i server?  There should be one typically (Ask your security admin or network admin. If not, you are not providing sufficient security to your IBM i server.) and you can set one timer in the firewall to kill any idling connections.  Some firewalls use the word "Session Idle Timer/Timeout" or similar wording and you set 15 minutes for it.

    Hello All,

I tested Daniel's option and got disconnected after 15 minutes, it should do the thing.

I will check the customer if the firewall is present or not.

Thank you all , Mikio-san, Daniel and Satid.
