Hi Staid & Robert,
Thank you both for promptly addressing my query. I want to update you that I am currently using TAPxx for backup. When I run the CHKTAP command, it indicates a license expiry message for the product and advises obtaining a license key from an IBM sales representative.
Upon checking the license authorization on IBM ESS, I found that the customer is not authorized for that product. Consequently, I am unable to download the key. However, in the meantime, I have obtained an interim key with a validity of 40 days from the IBM portal. I am currently in the process of seeking approval from the customer to apply the recommended PTF by Robert. Let's see how it unfolds.
Thanks again for your assistance.
.
Regards,
Thank you for

Dear Nadeem
What specific command and all its parameters do you use to do the backup that now fails? Are you using LTO tape?
In the SAVXXX command, what device name do you use to do the backup? A tape library will appear to IBM i as both TAPMLBnn and TAPnn devices and in your case, you should use TAPnn device and leave TAPMLBnn varied off and never use it unless you have a need to control its library operation with IBM i commands or programmatically. I guess that using TAPMLBnn device would need the use of Media and Storage Extension in some way and cause its operation to fail when you do not have the license key of the product.

If you already use TAPnn device and it still fails, you should look in the job log of the job that fails to do the data backup to see what specific thing causes the data backup to fail.
If somehow you cannot apply the PTF suggested by Robert soon, another thing you can do is to try asking your local IBM to obtain the license key of the Media and Storage Extension for you as all IBM i V7.x customers are now eligible for it for free.

Hi,
One of my customers is not using BRMS, but I installed Media and Storage Extensions in their current setup. Now, the Media and Storage Extension has expired, and I don't have keys to apply. I am using an IBM media library connected back-to-back with an IBM P10 Server, and there is no virtualization in place; it's a standalone machine. As a result, the backup has stopped. Please advise if I should uninstall the Media and Storage Extension product and continue with my routine backup.
I will thankful to you also if you can provide some usage of Media and Storage Extension product for my knowledge.
