32-bit versus 64-bit
--------------------------------
Hi,
we are currently running websphere version 6.1 on a linux box redhat 4 32-bit.
We plan to move to version 7 redhat 5 64-bit OS.
The question we have now : should we install also a websphere version 64-bit or is it better to install a websphere 32-bit ?
I know that the advantage of a 64-bit version is that you could assign much more memory to the jvm's. But if you don't need those big jvm's, what other advantages has the 64-bit was above the 32-bit version ? I only see some disadvantages for the 64-bit version : slower, higher memory foodprint (even with compressed refs), compatibility issues with used libraries.
Has somebody read live experience with this or other pro/con's ?
