For anything pixel perfect of presentation quality always use charts!
The setting you want is column width. This is found on the Bar series property of the chart. See screenshot :
Here are some examples of changing that property, from 100 to 80 to 50 to 10!

You can make these charts look like pretty much anything you want.
Design tips are to always remove the bar outlines (yuck) and change the palettes!

Subject: 11.1 Visualization Quality in PDF
Hi all,
I've been working on some executive reports that need to pixel-perfect in PDF. I discovered today from IBM support that it is known the 11.2 visualizations has pixelation issues in PDF. From support:
11.1 visualizations are rendered as PNGs in PDF so they pixelate a bit. This happens whether the PDF is viewed in Cognos or downloaded and viewed using Adobe. Chart visualizations are rendered as vector graphics in PDF so they are scaled correctly. This is already know and we do have an internal feature request put in to improve the quality of this visualization.
Since I cannot use these charts I've reverted back to the old charts, which render great in PDF. One thing I'd like to change though is to add space between columns in a chart. I don't see any properties the control that. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Including an image to illustrate the 11.1 visualization qualities and another that indicates how I'm trying to add space between the columns.
Thanks in advance.
