Limiting the size of AF's during AF creation.

Our archiving team has made some good decisions around the design and structure of archive file creation and we've made some poor decisions. Regarding the poor decisions,... we've allowed some larger archives to be stuffed entirely into one AF. I know, I know this is not a good best practice but none-the-less it has occurred.

What are some of your best practices with regard to how to split up larger Archives into segmented Archive Files? Are you breaking the archives into smaller segment sizes using the storage profile size limits or just manually breaking tables into sets by way of Access Definitions?

For example: We stuffed a 650GB Database with 4000 tables into one AF. Oops. Should not have done that but we did and now it's a pain to query the data.

    Hi, Danny.

I don't use the Archiving function of Optim, but I wonder if subsetting your data by date ranges would be an option.  I do this with data domains that are very large.
