  • 1.  IBM DMC 3.1.7.1 event monitoring

    I am using IBM DMC version 3.1.7.1 in a Windows Server 2022 Standard. We have started to monitor two databases and activated event monitoring to track the following events as they occur on your Db2 database:

    Statistics events
    Activity events
    Locking events
    Utility events
     
    In Pre-Prod environment we had no problems but in Production environment the database server became unresponsive within a few hours and we had to stop all event monitors to recover to a normal state.

    There are some Best Practices about the event monitor usage in IBM DMC ?

    Hello Roberto,
    The information captured by the event monitors depends on how busy the monitored databases are.
    For example the Activity event monitor will collect data for all applications running.  If you have a very busy database, it will collect a lot of data.
    Also, it will depend on how you configured your event monitor in DMC.  Are you collecting data every 1 minute, every 5 minutes, every 15 minutes?
    I have a chapter for event monitors in the DMC User's Guide at: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6963888, starting on page 65, explaining the  event monitor mechanism in DMC.

    I would also recommend to migrate your DMC to the latest V3.1.11, as we did have some improvements in the event monitors code after 3.1.7.1.
    You can also check the monitoring log files to see if there are any errors returned by Db2, which can affect the event monitors.

    Hello Cintia,
    thanks a lot for the answer, very helpful. At the moment we cannot move to the latest 3.1.11 version due to AUTHENTICATION=DATA_ENCRYPT configured in the database. DMC version 3.1.7.1 is the latest working with AUTHENTICATION=DATA_ENCRYPT.
    In the next days I will check the monitoring log files and in the case I find errors returned by Db2 or something I don't understand I will open a case.
