    Hello Team,
We would like to know how the Governance Rules and Policies apply to the Catalogs. We have below scenario...
We created Category ABC, assigned Business Terms and Data Classes to ABC Category. We created a Project and imported Data Assets from the source. We did Data Enrichment and Published the Data Assets into Two catalogs (X,Y).

We created Data Protection Rule on Phone Number for masking data based on the Data Class(Phone Number), created Policy and published. I did not find any option to select the Catalog while creating policy.

Published data asset into X,Y catalogs.
1.Policy should be applied on Catalog X and Collaborators should not see the data for Phone Number in Data Asset which is published into X.
    2. Policy should no be applied on Catalog Y and Collaborator should see the data for Phone Number in Data Asset which is published into Y.

Please do let me know how can we implement Governance rules in above scenario.

    Thanks for your support.

    Regards,
    Mohit

    Mohit,

You can absolutely do what you outlined. When you create a catalog, you specify whether data protection rules are enforced in that catalog. If you select the enforce data protection rules option, all data protection rules are enforced in that catalog. If you don't select that option, no rules are enforced in the catalog. Unfortunately, you can't change whether rules are enforced after you create the catalog. You can only select that option during catalog creation. See this page in the documentation: Creating a catalog (Watson Knowledge Catalog).

I hope that answers your question!

    @Inge Halilovic,

This mean it is have rules or no rules type of options in Catalog.

In @RAJNI HARYANI case, he ask for the following -
Rule A applied to Catalog 1 Only.
    Rule B applied to Catalog 1 & 2.
Rule C applied to Catalog 2 Only.

    Hi Inge Halilovic,
    Thanks for the explanation.
It could help us to design the Catalogs and add collaborators to it based on their level of data access to the assets.

Data protection rules are applied to ALL "governed" catalogs, regardless of whether they are linked to a policy or not.

How you can design/construct data protection rules is documented here: https://dataplatform.cloud.ibm.com/docs/content/wsj/governance/design-data-protection-rule.html?context=analytics&audience=wdp
This link describes the criteria for data protection rules. The criteria identifies conditions for enforcing the data protection rule.

Also read this link, which documents how data protection rules are enforced: https://dataplatform.cloud.ibm.com/docs/content/wsj/governance/data-protection-rules-enforcement.html?context=analytics&audience=wdp

And finally, look at this link for a Data governance and privacy Tutorial (including an informational video), which discusses everything above: https://dataplatform.cloud.ibm.com/docs/content/wsj/getting-started/df_gov_protect.html?context=analytics&audience=wdp
