Cloud Pak for Data offers an extensive and continuously growing list of supported data sources and services you can connect to for your organization to use with services on the platform. We try to make connecting to your data easier by offering a UI for entering connection properties to create a connected asset. You can see examples of this view in the images below.
🎟 For a ticket raffle entry, tell us when setting up connections from Cloud Pak for Data to your data sources or services, what are some common problems you encounter? What aspects of creating connections do you think need clarity or an explanation?

Creating Platform Connections can be confusing sometimes, e.g. if your userid does not have editor role in the Platform Assets catalog there can be issues, e.g. connection will not show up in the connection pull down when doing a Quick Scan discovery.  Another issue is a publish of quick scan result to catalog might fail if connection of same name does not exist in the catalog, this gotcha is buried in the documentation and not obvious to users.

Hi Thomas, thanks for your feedback. That definitely sounds confusing! Our intention with Platform connections/Platform assets catalog is that even users with "viewer" role can access and use the connections. We'll need to take a look at your use case and see if that is a bug or by design.

The issue with publishing quick scan results is a bit puzzling, I wanted to double check whether you meant that connection name already exists in the catalog? Regardless, we should certainly go a step beyond documentation and provide users with an error message that explains this in context.

Took me forever to find this piece of info that was causing my Quick Scan publishes to fail
I found 1 more tid bit of info that I think will fix our quick scan publishing to catalog issue. From the video it says we need to have the platform
connection we are using for the quick scan must also be in the catalog that we plan to publish the quick scan asset to. This is mentioned at 0:58 at the video located here.

Thank you for this. We will look at what we can do to bring this to users attention more quickly and easily.

Hey Kelley, you can find information about accessing data and connecting to data sources in IBM documentation here!

Can we even make this step even shorter or smoother with less user inputs, may be via clickable button with API keys.

Thank you for the suggestion Sandeep! I have asked this question to my team as well and we are looking into this as an option for simplification. Keep the ideas coming!
