Benefits of native applications in the "cloud"

Business applications have radically evolved in a changing and uncertain world. They need to be produced very quickly and cheaply. Months cannot pass between the need to change or develop an application is detected. And that this is available. The technology called "cloud computing", traditionally known as "cloud", has pushed a new ecosystem based on products and tools as services.

Mario Mendoza has spent years helping companies define their architecture models with a medium or long-term vision as a solutions architect at Red Hat, an American multinational open source software company. It is an area that arouses a lot of interest, but it is generally little given to the average public. People who when the definition of "native application" is explained to them may not know the answer. But this type of application, points out this expert, are designed "to get the most out of the cloud" because, among other things, "it consumes fewer resources, scales better when load peaks, is more flexible and I can distribute its execution."

And he points out: In a traditional center  with 100 machines, the percentage of machines that I have to have unused is high, prepared for peaks in demand or possible failures. In addition, I have to virtualize an operating system that consumes a lot of resources and has an associated cost. On the other hand, open source containers take better advantage of the hardware and do not require a virtualized operating system.

Until now, each application had to take special care. I needed to adjust the environment when they were installed, but if these services are taken and placed in containers, they are not only monitored in the same way, but in case of wanting to extend them to other territories, the platform itself generates the process automatically. " Containers simplify and scale the deployment process for any application . I just do the development, I put it in a container, and it is ready for a third party who does not know what is inside the deployment ", he says.

The message from the sector is that, with the "cloud", they have been inspired by traditional freight containers, so companies "need customs management, secure content or monitor the status and location of goods," he adds. However, this implies a change in the strategic culture: «It requires coordinating several companies or means of transport in different phases of the trip. In other words, door-to-door transport needs many things that go beyond the dimensions of the container, "he acknowledges.

And he assures: «It allows the application to be packaged in a container and guarantees that this will be available in all public clouds, securing, monitoring and scaling services so that companies can make secure use of technology. You can no longer understand the deployment of an application in the public or private cloud without using containers.
