Root domains for IBM Cloud static websites

Are root domains for IBM Cloud static websites supported? I do not see any documentation of that. Typically DNS is configured as in the following.

    www.dnsimple.com. 3599 IN CNAME dnsimple.com.
    dnsimple.com. 59 IN A 104.245.210.170

IBM Cloud static websites do not provide an IP for the site, correct? So we cannot use DNS A records. We use a special CNAME for the subdomains. I can create a CDN for the root domain but CNAME records do not support root domains.

IBM Cloud Object Storage uses Amazon S3, right? If Configuring a static website using a custom domain registered with Route 53 is the equivalent documentation for AWS then it says to create separate buckets for the root domain and the subdomain. Since IBM Cloud Object Storage uses a subset of Amazon S3 the implication is that IBM Cloud static websites do not support root domains.
