  • 1.  Unable to create a hierarchy

    Posted 21 days ago

I created a hierarchy in department dimension called 'Department Service Group'. What I have is just 3 levels- Total Department Function, Department Service Group, Department Code.

When I try to import members from the csv file, I keep getting an error which states "there is a leaf with the same name and cannot be inserted as parent". While I understood the error, I am unable to find a child with the same name.

To replicate the issue, I created a sample file with just 4 records.

    Attaching the sheet & error.

Any inputs will be of great help.

    Hi Venkata,

Is it on your first load of the dimension?

I have tested with your file, and as I would expect, I get no errors when importing to a primary and alternative hierarchy in the same dimension.

Is it on subsequent runs you get the error?

The N level elements can be in another hierarchy. Have you checked the leafs hierarchy for holding your C level elements as N level?

    HI Venkata,

Are you getting the error when using the attached file for a new dimension build? If so, perhaps you can screenshot or share your TI Code.

My initial thought is that your full dimension build has an alias being created/added to the elements which would cause you to be unable to "find" the element but still get the resulting error. You can always try pasting the element into the subset editor, if it is an alias it should show as valid and give you the principal element name.

HI Venkata, per Emil's response, you will probably find the member in the Leaves dimension.

Open up the set editor on the Leaves dimension then paste in the alias to see which member is returned.

This can easily happen when testing and deleting all members then later inserting other members where there is a clash.
