You can edit the auto generated statements in Workbench by going to settings > expand process editor > untick 'lock generated statements'.
I'm not sure that addresses all of your queries but thought that might be helpful to share.

A long standing customer has many, many TIs most of which have had variables added on the data tab using the TI Wizard.
This creates code in the protected area of the TI Process.
These variables do not show up in the data tab in the PAW editor (2.0.96), not sure if this is by design or a defect?
The end result is that in PAW it is not possible to interact with this code in anyway, effectively breaking a huge number of TIs that have been built in Architect / Perspectives.
Can ask that we either have the legacy wizard variables show up in the PAW TI editor (preferred) or a some kind of toggle in the editor to allow edits in the protected space?
