  • 1.  Theme customization and passwords

    Hello,

I'm brand new to theme customization

A line in the Cognos 11.2 Managing User Guide made me wonder if themes should be password protected
    • "When you are using a sample theme, you cannot reset your password after it expires."
A quick search suggests that sometimes website themes are sometimes vulnerable to hacking

    Any information/thoughts would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Hi Michael,

I'm also wondering about this line. In the past we created custom themes based on the exisiting theme and we didnt got this issue. Of course we changed our password a couple of times in this time. Normaly the password is provided by your security provider and not by cognos. The password reset will happen outside of cognos.

How is the workflow for customizing themes? Everything is happening via the Cognos Portal when you already logged in and you can also provide this theme to your organization.

    Regards,
    Hendrik

    Hi Hendrik,

It was quite a surprise for me but you can change the user's password from Cognos portal. It is true if you are using the default login page, but it is NOT working with customized login page:
PH49233 NO POSSIBILITY TO CHANGE PASSWORD USING CUSTOMIZED LOGIN PAGE BASED ON SAMPLELOGIN.ZIP EXTENSION
(Note: this APAR is not visible)

    Best regards,

    Thanks for the reply Hendrik!

I'm so new that I'm missing something fundamental.

I took the delivered blue and green sample zip file. The zip file contained just basic text and a few icons. I substituted our icon and name, zipped it up, placed it back on the server where the original blue and green sample was and in Cognos configured as stipulated to use the blue and green sample. Things work great

How if at all do passwords relate to this? What is the nature of those passwords? How do they prevent hacking? Should I be concerned about hacking with such a trivial change?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mike
