  • 1.  PAW Action Button Synchronize Control Dimension

    Posted Mon January 24, 2022 08:40 AM
    Hi,

Is it possible to synchronise a control dimension with a PAW action button parameter?

I have a cube, which includes the }Dimensions dimension. I have a view in paw and a dimension selector to select the dimension.

I then want to pass the selected dimension to the process, as this drives all the logic. So I synchronized the cube for the }Dimensions dimension.

However, when I go to the action button properties in PAW and set the parameter for the dimension and select Control Type Synchronized, the control dimensions do not appear in the list of available dimensions?

    regards,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,
That's how we have it now - no Control dimensions for the Control type synchronized. This was done this way because it'd show just the regular dimensions narrowing down the searching. as most often that is the scope for the books. Your case does include the Control dimension if you see it as an enchancement, please log it on our site: AHA ideas
Also note that we plan on delivering  the new Carbonized Action button, so most of the updates and changes will be coming with it.

    Hi Svetlana,

    appreciate the reply.

I couldn't see where it was mentioned in the guides that control dimensions are not included in Action Button Synchronization.

Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I am surprised IBM consider this as an enhancement and not just obviously required functionality.

If the number of items in the selections list is an issue then have an option to exclude or include the control dimensions, or just shows control dimensions.

I have had a look at the idea portal and can already see one raised for this, which is here:

    https://ibm-data-and-ai.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/PAOC-I-805

I do hope the new Carbonized Action button deals with this.
In the meantime, its workaround time!

    regards,

    Mark

Mark, thank you for pointing this out.
We'd clarify it in documentation that the Type Synchronized functionality is available just for the regular objects for now, I agree, it' not clear...
The  new design for Action Button Parameters should allow you filter on dimension type and have them both available, it'd be indeed better.

    Hi Svetlana,

Is it possible to add at least the possibility to select the name of the user who started the process? The equivalent of TM1USER()

    Hi Mehdi,
Please provide your scenario how you'd expect it to work with the action button.
