  • 1.  Legacy Studio behavior clarification if we upgrade to version 12....

    We are working to upgrade to a version 12 Cognos in the very near future.  We have a small but large usage of some of the Legacy Studios (Query Studio, Analysis Studio, and Workspace).  We want to understand the behavior of each of the studios once we are upgraded to version 12 and the studios are no longer available.

    1. I have been told that Query Studio and Analysis Studio content can still be ran in version 12.... of Cognos, however no edits can be made until the content is converted to a Report.  Is this correct?

    2. Workspace content, will that be able to be viewed in Cognos 12.... and no edits made to?  Out of curiosity, does anyone have any experience of getting Workspace content converted/re-built to one of the other studios (Report, Dashboard)?

    Thanks for the help, we are just wanting make sure we communicate to our user base accurate information.

    Hi Kimberley,

    I'm also currently migrating from Cognos 11.1 to 12.0 and have to replace Analysis Studio. All files from this studio will still be executable in Cognos 12. If users want to edit them, they have to have the Reporting capability assigned and the corresponding knowledge of how to use Reporting (formerly known as Report Studio). At the moment we test out several ways of customizing the Reporting UI with the customization feature of roles as well as some xml files on the Cognos server.

    One big downer when users open AS files with Reporting ist that they see the complex structure of multiple nested data items which may hold them back from actually being able to edit them. We will go with a new approach and ask users to rebuild their files or let us do the job for them.

    I'm using CA 11.2 and cannot upgrade to 12 due to workspaces. IBM has not provided any efficient tool to replace them, and most of our dashboards are built by displaying reporting objects in a workspace. Currently, there's no tool to display objects from different reports in a dashboard.

    I either have to rebuild all the objects in the workspaces using the dashboard tool, which is not feasible since dashboards cannot handle the complexities that reporting can, or I stay in 11.2. IBM has not provided any solution or replacement for workspaces. There are options for Query Studio or Analysis Studio, but not for workspaces.
