We are planning to move our cognos on premise environment to the Azure cloud.
We already have A SQL managed instance and 2 (empty) virtual machines for Cognos and MotioCI.

But i'm looking for guides to install Cognos, connect to the Azure active directory and set up IIS for single single on.
I allready have found one guide for Azure but that's without IIS for single single on.

I think we are not the only company that moves to Azure, So i'm trying to find some help/guide/discusions.

    Hi Remco,

Did you manage to find any documentation? Do you have Cognos11 working on Azure?

We have Cognos10.2.2 FP10 working on Azure with Azure active directory and IIS single sign-on.

We are currently in the process of migrating to Cognos 11.1.7 on Azure

    Regards
    Trevor

I just got this working on my end so thought I'd reply... even if a little late...

When setting up your Content Manager DB and Cognos Audit DB try the following...

    1)  Microsoft SQL Server Database (Windows Authentication).
    2) Put in your Database Server Name... "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.database.windows.net:1433"
    3)  This is where I tricked the system... instead of just my database name, I added some additional fields.  In my case my database was UAT1_COGNOS_117.   I wanted to use "Active Directory MSI"  and my server name (that had AAD Identity set to it...) was azpwebappd101.  so in that one field I added   "UAT1_COGNOS_1117_AUDIT;Authentication=ActiveDirectoryMSI;UserID=azpwebappd101".
    4) Now the only problem was I had two authentication assigned, but luckily I was able to override the "IntegratedSecurity" setting by opening up Advanced Properties, and adding a record Name:IntegratedSecurity with value:False.

From there I just needed to add the AAD identity (azpwebappd101)  to the database with db_owner role and I was good to go. I attemped to have support show me how to do it, but they just listed it wasn't supported so who knows if this will continue to work.

    Good luck!

Moving a Cognos on-premise environment to Azure can be a complex process, and it's important to ensure that all steps are properly planned and executed to avoid any issues or disruptions. Here are some resources that might be helpful in setting up Cognos on Azure:

    1. Microsoft Azure documentation: The official Azure documentation provides detailed guides and tutorials for deploying and configuring various applications on Azure. You can find a guide specifically for deploying Cognos on Azure here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/example-scenario/cognos-analytics/

    2. IBM documentation: IBM also provides documentation for installing and configuring Cognos on Azure, including information on setting up Azure AD for single sign-on. You can find the documentation here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEP7J_11.2.0/com.ibm.swg.ba.cognos.inst_cr_winux.doc/c_gts_inst_cr_cgn_azr.html

    3. Online communities: There are online communities, such as the IBM Cognos Analytics forum on the IBM website, where you can connect with other users who have experience setting up Cognos on Azure. You can post your questions and concerns and get feedback from experienced users.

    4. Consult with a Cognos expert: If you don't have in-house expertise to set up Cognos on Azure, you may want to consider working with a consultant or expert who specializes in Cognos and Azure. They can provide guidance and support throughout the migration process and help ensure that everything is set up correctly.

It's important to thoroughly research and plan your migration to Azure to ensure a successful transition. Good luck with your migration!
