Hello together,
I was a little bit puzzled today on the execution time and maybe some caching which might play an important part.
- I am working on a very condensed report, but having several queries in between and spanning over 4 tabs in Excel.
- There are several unions, some joins and some additional descriptive info on the report as text tables.
- I did save the query for the entire report under several versions (up to 38).
- Version 1 is very basic and does not contain all the different queries as in version 38
Now, I was working on Version 35 to Version 37 throughout the day.
In between, I did several modifications and they were running without any problems (of course excutation time got increased a little bit as complexity increased).
Coming to Version 38 the same day, I did a small change on the formatting of numbers on the report output (2 digit decimals). Having run this report, it exceeded the limit und a could not get the report.
- So, my reaction was to reduce some not used fields in the queries. I did run it again (several times) - no chance.
- Then I went back to version 7 (very initial version) - success.
- Then a went to the previous version 37 - success.
- Then I did version 38 - success.
- I checked the job monitor and there were no significant jobs running during the time, these problems occurred.
For me, it is very unclear, what the bindings in terms of the execution time and the cache are.
- Is the cache persistent and usable not only for the same report but also for parts of queries and thus influencing execution time due to the preload of data in previous versions?
- How does the system differentiate between preloaded data from a query and a slightly modified query?
- Is the cache crossing the users or only per user?
If anybody has an idea or link to answer this question, I would greatly appreciate.
