  • 1.  End of Rich Tier - automatic batch files and smtp calls

    Posted Thu May 30, 2024 11:32 AM

    Hi,

We are aware of the plan to remove the Rich Tier access from clients. We often implement automatic scripts such as batch files, PowerShell scripts, tm1runti commands and SMTP calls. They require no manual intervention and can run when no one else is on the server.

Will all these still work once the Rich Tier access is removed? For example will a call to the tm1runti using a service account still work? How about a PowerShell script that uses smtp to send an email that was originally called within PA? Scripts to zip up the Data Directory, will they still automatically run in the server?

    Kind Regards

I'm fairly certain that will still work until upgrading to TM1 server V12 where you will lose access to the OS eliminating your ability to interact with CMD line and other OS level services. At that point you would need to use API endpoints to call things such as TM1py scripts.

Here is an FAQ on the Rich Tier deprecation

Robby is correct.  You can still upload batch and powershell script files with FTP.  These scripts exist on the network drive (S: drive) in Planning Analytics on Cloud.  Although the network drive can be access from the rich tier, it does not depend on the rich tier.  The ExecuteCommand TI function runs scripts that exist on the network share, not the rich tier.

We are adding a modeling workbench feature called Drive Explorer in 2.0.98.  The Drive Explorer is a advanced version of the current File Manager that allows modelers to manage files on the network (S:) drive.  There is access control to enable the Drive Explorer for specific users.  Users with access to the feature can upload and download script files without opening an FTP client.  We will block the upload of executables from this feature, but FTP of executables is still possible.

We are considering adding a simple inline text viewer\editor in the File Manager and Drive Explorer so users can make quick edits to script and text files without download and uploading.
