We're currently a Sybase shop but with the continued decline in support of Sybase in the market plus SAP's low-confidence reassurances in their future direction with ASE we've started a long-term project investigating alternatives. Open Source would be a great way to go!

PostgreSQL/PostgreSQL JDBC has been supported from Dynamic Query since 10.2.1, and CQM via PostgreSQL ODBC in previous releases.

Official support for MariaDB wasn't introduced to Cognos until version 11.0.5, so you won't see a data source for it when creating connections in 10.2.1. I think your only option here is to download the MariaDB ODBC connector:

When you configure it, make sure you choose the 32-bit driver. Then you can set up an ODBC connection on your server (using the ODBCAD32 interface). Once this has been done, you can set up an ODBC data source connection in Cognos 10.2.1 that points to this.
