  • 1.  Hierarchy indentation in Picklists

    Hi,

As some of us may have already come across this issue, can you please consider showing hierarchy indentation as part of the TM1 picklist behavior ?
I believe using indentation will greatly improve the use of picklists and they will provide excellent user interaction.

Currently, picklists are only showing a flat list of elements. Ideally they would show elements indented as part of the dimension hierarchy they belong to.
Please see the image below for more clarity on picklists versus dimension selectors in PAW (or even SUBNM in Perspectives/PAX).
Greatly appreciate if this is something at least feasible in the near future.

    Thanks,
    Cristian

    Hi Christian,

Using the current set-up of picklists, if this was something you really wanted - you could get pretty close by having the picklist based on an alias where you just prefix the element name with a number of hyphens depending on the level.

If this was implemented as a change by IBM, I would very much want it to be a toggle in PAW - so you can either show with indentations or not. I do see the possible benefit, but sometimes element names are long enough as it is so I wouldn't want it to put empty space in front of them by default!

    Thanks,

    Declan

    Hi Declan,

Thanks for your suggestion of using an alias, that might be useful as a trick in some situations indeed.
However, there are use cases where people really want to expand/collapse members in a dimension and then finally pick the member they are interested in. It may be a leaf element or consolidated, depending on the request. And that is not possible with current setup of picklists.

My suggestion is around being able to modify existing picklist definition to something like:
'subset:[indent]:Dimension:Subset' , where you can specify the optional [indent] parameter. To your point, that should be really optional. That would potentially enable the regular subset display and show the same window.

Bottom line is, today we do not have any way of either 1) showing the indentation in a picklist or potentially 2) sending the currently selected element in a dimension selector further to an MDX subset. The only option today is to use Synchronised option in a TI process in PAW to further send the selected element to the process, which is awesome. I think we are so close of having access to that selected element, let's call it @@Selected. Either option would be great addition to TM1/PAW.

    Thanks,
    Cristian

Hi Cristian, could you load an Idea on this so that it gets voted on and review by the IBM team?

worth mentioning that tm1ElList worksheet function allows for custom set-level based formatting which can feed validation lists or other controls for spreadsheets as pickers. some sophistication in it's use depending on goals, though.
