TM1 Planning Server and Workspace: authentication, authorization, workflow

  • 1.  TM1 Planning Server and Workspace: authentication, authorization, workflow

    Hi all,

I have the following questions regarding the TM1 Planning Server and Workspace:
    • Can PAW use TM1 authentication e.g. Integrated login? If so, is it needed to create new users and groups in PAW for authorization or TM1 groups and users may be used?
    • Can TM1 Application Workflow be used in PAW? If not, what is the alternative in order to provide users with application type of approval?

    Kind Regards,

    Hi,
Workspace can/must be configured in the same was as the TM1 instance for user authentication.
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.0.0?topic=local-connect-tm1-authentication-servers
Use this parameter to automatically create a user when they connect to PAW:  ENABLE_USER_IMPORT=TRUE

Groups are completely separate between Workspace and TM1.  The Workspace groups only control access/control of objects in Workspace itself.  There is no out of the box way to connect the two sets of groups.   Two options I have heard of, is to have a TI process that creates a flat file with group ownership and then an admin loads the file, and the other is to use the API functionality to have it build groups in one or both systems.

Workspace has its own Application system.  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-analytics/2.0.0?topic=workspace-use-applications-plans-organize-work

    Good luck!
