PAX DBSS Not working.

  • 1.  PAX DBSS Not working.

    I have a sheet with DBSS formula sending values into a cube. However, when I do a Refresh Sheet, it is only sending about half the values into the cube. If I click on one of the cells that is not sending, put it into edit mode and then enter, then the DBSS formula is being activated to send the value into the cube.

    If I go back to Perspectives and recalc then the same sheet works perfectly

    Has anyone else had this problem?

    (We are on version 2.0.5)

    what version of pa for excel? DBS* functions have undergone several changes across the span of releases. There is also some nuance to string writes, in general.

    Hi Ted

    As far as I am aware it is the version of PAX that was around at the same time as PA 2.0.5. I cannot see anywhere in the PAX user interface where it tells you what version you are on. Perhaps IBM could add the standard About menu that normally gives this information, or put something in the Options Menu? The CognosOfficeTM1.xll doesn't give a version number. The CognosOfficeShim12.dll has a version number of 11.0.39.5, CognosOfficeReporting.dll has 11.0.39.8.

    For many versions of PA for Excel, you can see the version by going to the IBM ribbon > Help > About > Show Version

    For the version you reported, you should be already using something fairly current for DBS functions technology-wise. At this point, I'd suggest you engage IBM support for a more direct collaboration.

    Help -> About -> Show Version

    This will bring up the cmplst.txt file.  Look for the following lines.

    [Main Applications]

    COR_APP_version=COR_APP-AW64-ML-RTM-11.0.42.20-0
    COR_APP_name=Cognos 8 Analysis for Excel

    This would version 2.0.42.  Sounds like you are using 2.0.39.

    I did check again, you may want to retest with something a bit newer (v41+) and see if your experience improves.

    Hi Ted / Stuart

    I installed 2.0.48
    COR_APP_version=COR_APP-AW32-ML-RTM-11.0.48.4-0

    This has mostly cured the DBSS issue. However, previously if Perspectives had a DBSS looking at a blank cell, it would clear that cell in the underlying cube. However, this does not happen in PAX. You need to actually put a space into a blank cell to clear the related cell in the cube.

    The upgrade has not cured the other issue we were having with most of the buttons being missing from the Set Editor.

    PA for Excel generally uses empty values to mean non-content, and empty string ("" or ' ) is intended to conduct empty writes (for writeback, etc).

    That said, I believe the clear story for DBS* has more 'going on', your solution of writing spaces for DBSS seems good if suitable.

    Not sure if you saw the bulletin today Paul but 2.0.49 has been released. May be worthwhile testing if you are still working.

    I am aware of a symptom where icons can be absent in the set editor, this is due to a increased security policy applied to internet explorer, which is frequently seen out of the box on windows server OS's but could be applied elsewhere.  Please confirm you can see the full set editor in internet explorer against PA Workspace itself, or adjust the IE security settings to allow the UI materials to be displayed.

    Hi Ted,

    It is OK, in PAW. This problem is specific to PAX. We have tried things around the browser such as setting the default browser to Chrome, but it has made no difference. By issues with IE, are you referring to Enhanced Security Mode or something else?

    can you give a specific example of the issue you're seeing? ex: is the dbs formula getting 'stuck' in a recalc state, but if you cycle it through edit mode it completes?

    would ask the questions as above regarding component version mix, as well.
