By Thanuja Tankasala posted Fri December 31, 2021 11:50 AM

In this blog we will see what BPC has to offer and the exploration I did based on the documentation available here : https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cloud-paks/cp-biz-automation/20.0.x?topic=visualization-business-performance-center

  1. Goal :

    Documentation: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSYHZ8_20.0.x/com.ibm.dba.bai/bpc_topics/tsk_bai_bpc_goals.html
    • Use the above documentation to create a goal
    • A business objective to make it clear to the business users using the dashboard what you are trying to achieve.
    • A goal cannot be deleted if it is associated to a dashboard. You can view the association of any goal as below:

    • Goal will appear on top of the chart you have associated it with like below
  2. Dashboards :

    Documentation : https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSYHZ8_20.0.x/com.ibm.dba.bai/bpc_topics/tut_bpc_hiring_dashboard.html
    • Dashboard allows you to create new charts, provide alerts and view the charts based on desired time range.
    • To change the source of data being used by all the charts in the dashboard follow the below steps:

Click on the edit button in the dashboard view. Change the Monitoring resources in the edit tab

  3. Charts

Documentation for creating charts : https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSYHZ8_20.0.x/com.ibm.dba.bai/bpc_topics/con_bai_bpc_charts.html
    • Use the above documentation to create different types of charts
    • Based on the data available it will automatically convert your chart from one type to another.
    • Predictions can be enabled on only Period based charts.
    • Threshold can be set to KPI charts

  4. Predictions:

    Documentation : https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSYHZ8_20.0.x/com.ibm.dba.bai/bpc_topics/tsk_bai_bpc_predictions.html
    • Make sure you have data with min of 50 datasets available for predictions.
    • Predictions can be available only on Period based charts.
    • Turn on the predictions in the chart’s “filter and predictions tab” first as below

    • Turn on the predictions inside the dashboard’s chart view like below

    • You will be able to view the predictions like the highlighted ones in the below image:
  5. Alerts:

    Documentation : https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSYHZ8_20.0.x/com.ibm.dba.bai/bpc_topics/tsk_bai_bpc_alerts.html
    • Alerts can be set on the charts which can define threshold i.e KPI charts
    • Set some limits to the max cases to be resolved by one person or max cases that are supposed to received per day like below:
    • Now you can set the alerts if the max number of cases received more than 4.
    • Once the limit is crossed you can view the notification in the notification tab of the dashboard as below

    Happy exploring !!
