In these uncertain times of a rampant outbreak, IBM® API Connect has been constantly delivering features to improve the overall product’s user experience by listening to our customers. In this December release, I’m excited to introduce one of the key highlights of the launch – the new API editor that supports Open API V3 PSD2 requirements.
With this new editor, we are continuing to improve the productivity of developers to rapidly develop and iterate Open API specifications, with support for Swagger 2.0 and OpenAPI 3.
Open API 3.0 standard specification has simplified the structure with a better grouping of different parts of specification with a focus on improved reusability of components. As Open API 3.0 spec started gaining widespread adoption, IBM API Connect was one of the first API Management solutions to include support via CLI. However, based on the feedback from our customers, we understood the need to have this supported on our UI.

With extensive design research and iteration, we have introduced an intuitive form-based UI Editor that enables our customers to develop APIs conforming to Open API 3.0 standards. With this editor, you can easily create a new Open API V3 specification or import an already created one easily.
We have also introduced a new navigation structure using which the developers can easily navigate to the different parts of the API specification with a single click. This new tree structure allows you to easily drill down to each specific Open API object in the document.
Different parts of the specification are categorized, thereby allowing developers to easily understand and navigate to specific parts with ease. Now, it is even easier to toggle between the form view and the source view providing flexibility to developers to choose to work on a specific section using the view they feel comfortable with.
Another cool enhancement that would help developers in boosting their productivity is inline validation that provides feedback instantly. This will not only validate the API document for its OAS compliance but also for the correctness of the vendor configurations added to it. With this feature, developers can easily identify the errors and correct them without having to spend a significant amount of time.
We now auto-save your changes to the API document without having you click the Save button every time you make a change. You can switch between different views and traverse different sections of the editor without worrying about saving the changes.
The step by step assembly debug can be used to examine Open API V3 execution flow along with response payload and related metrics. They can also view the response metadata on the same UI to know how the API is designed.
This new editor is also available in the API Designer.
