IBM TechXchange Conference 2023 – IBM Z and LinuxONE Hands-on Labs

We know that you’ve been eagerly awaiting more details about the technical sessions and labs planned for the upcoming IBM TechXchange Conference 2023. I’m excited to share a preview of some of the labs we are planning for IBM Z and LinuxONE. Please note that the titles and lab descriptions are still being refined, but this gives you a sense of what is coming, and there is so much more.

Additionally, join us for our IBM zXplore Code-a-thon on Community Day – where you will get hands-on experience with self-paced challenges designed to showcase modern ways of working on the mainframe. Participants will use today’s common developer tools to create modern interfaces with current computer languages.

Lab Title

Abstract

Let’s infuse AI into your z/OS Application

This session will demonstrate how easy it is to infuse AI into your existing z/OS CICS/COBOL application using Watson Machine Learning for z/OS (WMLz). This hands-on lab will allow participants to ingest an AI model into WMLz, deploy it and exploit it from z/OS application to score transactions.

Performing AI queries with Db2 13 for z/OS using SQL Data Insights

See how IBM SQL Data Insights, a feature of Db2 for z/OS v13, combines unsupervised deep learning with traditional SQL queries to allow you to run similarity, dis-similarity, cluster, and analogy queries on your Db2 data. You can uncover the hidden relationships across tables and views in your Db2 data, quickly gain actionable insights, and confidently arrive at better business decisions.

We examine a food nutrition table containing detailed numerical and categorical information about a wide range of common grocery items from around the world. You will use AI SQL queries to understand which food products are most similar or dissimilar across brands and countries to help generate recommendations and uncover insights. Use cases in the banking and insurance industries will also be explored.

Build and deploy an AI fraud model to leverage the IBM z16's Integrated Accelerator for AI

In this session come and see how Db2 for z/OS data can be used to create a deep learning model to detect credit card fraud. You will learn how to deploy the model to IBM z/OS while taking advantage of the IBM z16's Integrated Accelerator for AI to reduce prediction latency.

Hands-on Lab: Managing z/VM and Linux on IBM zSystems

This lab lets you choose from several monitoring, automation and backup/recovery scenarios for z/VM and Linux guests, including those running on LinuxONE. You can choose from separate hands-on labs using IBM Operations Manager for z/VM, IBM Backup and Restore Manager for z/VM, and IBM OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux. Lab exercises include viewing and interacting with service machine and Linux guest consoles, taking an action based on a console message, monitoring user IDs for logoff, monitoring spool and page space, viewing the overall performance of the z/VM system and each Linux guest, and backing up and recovering z/VM data.

BYOD: IBM EKMF Web for Pervasive Encryption and Cloud Key Management with latest features

Managing your keys is a crucial element when implementing encryption. If you lose a key, you will lose all data encrypted with that key. EKMF Web is an exciting new IBM product that can simplify key management when implementing z/OS Dataset Encryption. Recent enhancements to the solution now support management of encryption keys in various cloud providers’ key stores (i.e. IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure) and managing keys via RESTful APIs to seamlessly integrate key management with your business processes.

Modernize your applications with confidence

Come and gain hands-on experience to learn how IBM Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI) can provide valuable insights into your mission-critical applications by discovering relationships between your application artifacts, such as maps, transactions, programs, databases, or jobs, and how to use that information to identify API candidates. Need more time? You will have access for an additional 3 days to complete the lab.

Performance Monitoring and Observability on z/OS

Come explore the many capabilities of our IBM Z Monitoring and Observability solutions.  Try out all the latest features of the OMEGAMON products and discover how Observability with Instana on z/OS can reveal a clear view of your hybrid cloud applications by tracing business transactions through critical mainframe components.  See how integration using the OMEGAMON data provider adds additional value to IBM’s Observability solution.
