Companies have a lot invested in applications that run their day-to-day business and interface with their customers. In today’s ever changing and fast paced world, businesses are looking to modernize those applications to remain competitive and avoid being left behind.
IBM Cloud Transformation Advisor
Because businesses have hundreds (if not thousands) of applications, the journey to the cloud should start with an evaluation of the existing application portfolio by Transformation Advisor, which generates a report of each application’s readiness to move to a cloud native environment along with a general sizing of the effort and guidance to get there. Some applications may be ready to move immediately, while other apps might need to be refactored and updated before making the move. Still other applications might be best served by being completely rebuilt, or alternatively left relatively unchanged and lifted and shifted to the cloud.

WebSphere Configuration Migration Tool for IBM Cloud
If you are ready to move some of your WebSphere workloads to the cloud, use the WebSphere Configuration Migration Tool for IBM Cloud (WCMT4IC). This tool enables you to migrate from traditional WebSphere Application Server versions 7.0, 8.0, 8.5.5, and 9.0 to IBM Cloud or IBM Cloud Private in either VMs or Docker containers. WCMT4IC guides you through the process of choosing to “clone” an entire WAS Network Deployment cell to the cloud while leaving the on-premise deployment fully intact and functioning, or you can select just some specific applications to parcel out and containerize for deployment to a Kubernetes managed platform.
WebSphere Application Migration Toolkit and Migration Toolkit for Application Binaries
Use the WebSphere Application Migration Toolkit (WAMT) or the Migration Toolkit for Application Binaries (Binary Scanner) when an application needs to be refactored or updated before making the transition. WAMT and the Binary Scanner analyze your applications and generate detailed reports containing potential issues, warnings, and recommendations that need to be considered when migrating an application from one version of WebSphere to another, or from traditional WebSphere Application Server to WebSphere Liberty. WAMT is a plug-in for the Eclipse IDE and scans application source code; whereas the Binary Scanner analyzes binary applications (i.e., *.ear and *.war files). The functionality of the Binary Scanner also is available in the traditional WAS administrative console. Navigate to the WebSphere enterprise applications panel and select one or more application to analyze and get a detailed report on the readiness of the application to be deployed to WebSphere Liberty.
