About Being a Serial Ambassador

I think it’s safe to say that I’m a serial ambassador – twice an IBM Z Ambassador, and twice an IBM zSystems Student Ambassador Captain. There is so much which keeps me in the program. A program which is changing a bit with every cohort: Master the Mainframe and now IBM Z Xplore, Design Thinking workshops, learning about the UN SDGs, cultural exchange with other students, confidence building, leadership skills building, technical skills building with Interskill, mentorships, events, networking, etc.

If I must single out one aspect of the program which I consider most important, I’d say it’s the networking part. It’s uplifting to see so many IBMers but also “outsiders” being highly supportive of us students. I loved our events with @JORIS MERTENS, @Eysha Shirrine Powers, @Joe Winchester, and so many others, and how they are helpful whenever there are questions. Networking led to invitations to IBM z16 Day in April and IBM zDay in September this year. And speaking at IBM z16 Day led to an invitation and participation in a panel at the Young Talents Mainframe Convention in Germany.

Access to Interskill is very helpful as well. The Db2 courses available on the platform provided a perfect practical view of the theoretical knowledge that I just gained at the university in the area of databases. This is supporting the learning process whilst gaining valuable credentials.

It’s tough at times to juggle work, university, and ambassadorship but understanding and supportive program leads make it possible again and again.
