Insurance providers have the important task of protecting customers in case of an accident, whether that’s an issue with their property, or if their health is impacted.  To provide that level of support to their customers, providers need to maintain a high level of availability for their applications and systems.  A regional health insurance provider performed a scheduled upgrade to their Db2 databases on z/OS.  Unfortunately, the upgrade was unsuccessful and some of the tablespaces were unusable.  The customer discovered two days later that the database had been corrupted and they didn’t have a way to easily recover.

Working with IZBR on the IBM Z platform, the customer was able to recover their databases and resume business.  IZBR was able to provide a list of associated files, identify Flashcopies that had been executed prior to the database upgrade, and quickly automate the generation of JCL to recover the databases to a point in time prior to the upgrade.  The client was able to resume business within a matter of hours, avoiding a major outage and potential penalties.

Ultimately, they were able to successfully complete their upgrade to the latest version of Db2 technology, facilitating faster, more responsive customer service.
