IBM Power servers are purpose built for data-intensive applications such as SAP HANA and S/4HANA that require large amounts of in-memory computing but still let you maintain the high availability and flexibility required for your hybrid cloud.

IBM® Power® vPMEM white paper update

By Ralf Eberhard posted Mon January 15, 2024 04:26 AM

vPMEM is an extension of IBM's PowerVM virtualization platform that allows for the creation of persistent memory volumes using DRAM memory modules found in IBM Power9 and later servers.

With vPMEM, data in memory can be preserved even after an operating system shutdown, avoiding time-consuming column table reloads when SAP® HANA™ is restarted. This leads to quicker HANA startup times. Additionally, vPMEM is supported with Live Partition Mobility (LPM).

The vPMEM white paper has been updated to include more information on the automated creation and mounting of vPMEM-based file systems, the operational behavior of PowerVM and SAP HANA with vPMEM, and the use of Live Partition Mobility for LPARs with vPMEM volumes.

The updated white paper can be found in the SAP on Power Systems Library on the IBM Power Community website under the SAP HANA Startup Acceleration section.
