IBM Instana Observability Self-Hosted releases a new version – version  1.0.235 – today, October 25, 2022.

This latest release delivers enhancements and additional coverage from what was delivered with version 1.0.233. In this release, you can directly use Instana packages for installation and deployment.  For detailed instructions, see the Instructions.pdf file, which you can download from Passport Advantage

Main features now available to IBM clients in the new release

Website monitoring: Uploading JavaScript source map files (Technology Preview)

  • Instana website monitoring now supports upload of JavaScript source map files as a Technology Preview. This feature enables the stack traces translation for the customers who monitor internal websites with Instana SaaS. In this Technology Preview, Web REST APIs and user interfaces(UI) are provided to upload JavaScript source map files to the Instana backend. This allows the users to easily integrate the APIs into the build pipeline for automation. Contact the Instana support team for details if you're interested in this feature.

Rate aggregation for infrastructure

  • The Infrastructure & Platforms datasource in Custom Dashboards now supports calculating rates of counters. For more information, see Rate Aggregation.

.NET Core Profiling

OpenTelemetry Exporter for Go

Unbounded Analytics: Fast query mode

  • The Fast query mode is available and enabled by default when calls or traces are analyzed. When it is enabled, the query can be executed against a subset of the data, if execution against the full data set for the selected time frame takes too long.

Kubernetes logs context

  • In the Logs view of the Analytics page on the Instana UI, when you expand the log details by clicking the chevron button, the information that is related to Kubernetes and Infrastructure is now displayed in separate groups. Additionally, health dots are added to the log details view to show the health of the entities that are related to the log message. The health dots change color according to the entity’s health status, and also show the number of current issues on hover.

Sensor improvements

Db2 LUW sensor

  • JSON Web Tokens (JWT) is a mechanism supported by Db2 for authentication, and is now supported by the Db2 LUW Sensors.

  • Fixes the problem that the host agent fails to create inventories for the db2syscprocess that runs in containers during the local monitoring.

IBM DataPower Sensor

  • Changes the DataPower sensor to use the host agent threadPoolProvider, to improve the agent performance.

  • Fixes the problem that the domain name was wrongly shown as IBM DataPower Domain and the service name was wrongly shown as IBM DataPower Service on Instana UI when one service's local port was null.

MongoDB sensor

  • Adds opcounter metrics, including the total number of update, insert, query, delete and getMore operations after the MongoDB instance last started.

  • Adds the number of active client connections that perform read and write operations. For more information, see Monitoring MongoDB.

Oracle DB Sensor

  • New set of metrics are added to monitor system global area (SGA) and other resources like processes and sessions.

Power HMC Sensor

  • Adds new metrics for Maximum CPU Capacity and Current Reserved Processing Units.

Other improvements

Containerd metrics

  • Added new metrics Memory Usage, Block IO and Memory Limit information for containerd UI.

Improves the display of WebSphere thread pools

  • All thread pools in the WebSphere dashboard are shown on Instana UI now, instead of just the WebContainer thread pool.

Improved Python Flask support

Custom alert support for IBM i

  • Added the custom event for inactive jobs.

  • Added the custom event for network port.

Support for dynamic custom payload for Application Smart Alerts

Displays limited group type on user details page

  • Go to Settings > Users on Instana UI, in the User detail page, limited access group type information is now displayed in the list of groups that a user is member of.
