IBM is pleased to announce that a new release of IBM Observability by Instana — version 1.0.225 — is available as of June 7, 2022.

This latest release delivers enhancements and additional coverage from what was delivered with version 1.0.223. It leverages prior investments in IBM middleware and brings visibility into the Observability platform. In this release, you can directly use Instana packages. For detailed instructions, see the Instructions.pdf file, which you can download from Passport Advantage
Main features now available to IBM clients in the new release
IBM OpenStack Sensor
  • OpenStack Sensor is now supported in Instana as a platform.
  • Added support for following metrics:
    • CPU and memory utilization of hypervisors.
    • CPU and memory utilization of compute servers.
NGINX Tracer 1.6.0 and Envoy Tracer 1.6.0
  • Changed the log level for ignored JSON fields in the discovery response from warn to debug.
Website Smart Alerts on custom events
  • Instana now supports alerting on Custom Events of your monitored website. This helps to notify when a specific event occurs. For more information, see Website Smart Alerts docs.
Camunda tracing
  • Instana now supports Camunda tracing of BPMN activities. By using this feature, you can gain visibility into Camunda BPMN activities, and automatically link the activity-related sub calls for full context and infrastructure insights.
Sensor improvements
AWS Sensor
  • Improved the performance of AWS SQS data extraction.
IBM Db2 LUW Sensor
  • The design of the local monitoring sensor is changed to support multiple instances and databases from v1.0.24 onwards. As a result, all the local monitoring configurations need to be added into the local tag. However, the design is compatible with the existing configuration that you might be using now for single database instance monitoring, and the single database configuration remains to be supported.
  • The table snap_get_dbm is deprecated now, and is replaced with the new table MON_GET_INSTANCE. The columns Remote Connections and Remote Connections Executing from the table snap_get_dbm are removed from the Instana UI, and the consolidated list of connections will be displayed as Total connections, which is obtained from the new table MON_GET_INSTANCE.
IBM i OS Sensor
  • Validated the service availability for all the metrics.
IBM MQ Sensor
  • Added Last Put Time and Last Get Time for queue metrics.
  • Moved Type, Usage, Monitoring from queue table to queue dashboard information, and added Current Queue Depth, Max Queue Depth, Last Put Time and Last Get Time to queue table.
  • Fixed the local monitoring default port detection issue
IBM MQ Tracing
  • Added support for Linux on Z (s390x, 64bit).
Kafka Sensor
  • Closed instana-agent Kafka clients when the sensor deactivates.
OracleDB Sensor
  • The sensor now collects service names for each database instance.
Python sensor
  • Fixed AttributeError when sqlalchemy is used with testcontainers.
Statsd Sensor
  • The sensor now collects up to 1000 metrics per metric type.
Other improvements
LogDNA Logging integration
  • You can now enter a customized base URL in addition to the accountId in the LogDNA settings page.
Custom Events API
  • Added a POST endpoint to simplify the creation of a new Custom Event.
  • The PUT endpoint for Custom Event upsert was extended with an optional allowRestore query parameter, which allows you to restore a previously deleted Custom Event.
Application Perspectives
  • Replaced Calls and Erroneous Calls widgets with Calls Per Second and Erroneous Call Rate in the Summary tab.
  • Added a new aggregation per second. The per second aggregation is available for the calls and erroneousCalls metrics in Unbounded Analytics page.
Webhook Alert Channel
  • Fixed the problematic test button that always showed a success message even in case of error.
Custom Payload
  • Fixed the issue of missing custom payload in alert notifications when certain dynamic fields are used.
For additional features, improvements, and fixes made to the enterprise observability platform and automated Application Performance Monitoring solution, see the release notes at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/obi/current?topic=premises-build-225.
