Everybody wants a smaller cloud bill. At the same time, nobody wants to under-provision resources and risk making their applications too brittle. Finding the balance when rightsizing your infrastructure can be extremely challenging.
To pursue performance with efficiency and to use IT infrastructure sustainably, Instana integrates with IBM Turbonomic to proactively deliver the most efficient use of compute, storage and network resources at every layer of the stack.
Today, we're excited to announce that you can now leverage Instana metrics with AWS Compute Optimizer, to help achieve optimal efficiency for applications running on AWS. Utilizing machine learning models, AWS Compute Optimizer produces recommendations to optimize Amazon EC2 instance sizing, and early data show that compute optimizer customers can improve their cloud utilization several times over.
To improve your Amazon EC2 rightsizing recommendations with memory utilization data from Instana, navigate to AWS Compute Optimizer from your AWS Management Console and select Instana from the list of External metrics ingestion sources in your account preferences. Then reach out to Instana support to enable this new feature for your account.
Once you enable Compute Optimizer on your AWS and Instana accounts, Instana will begin reporting your memory utilization metrics to Compute Optimizer with 5-minute granularity once an hour. After 30 hours of reporting, you will start to receive compute optimization recommendations. These recommendations will be updated every 24 hours as new data continues to flow in.
