What’s the difference between HDAM, HISAM, GSAM, and the other “AMs”?

In this comprehensive, 33-hour course, you’ll learn about the different IMS database organizations, which ones are suited to various objectives and environments; you'll learn about DBDs, PSBs, data sets, JCL, and secondary indexes; how to use IMS utilities to reorganize and recover databases, including those with secondary indexes; how to use the DL/I test program; how to prepare a job stream to load a database that uses any of the IMS access methods; and how to do database design.

Who is the course for?

This is an intermediate course for database administrators, system programmers, and other data administration individuals, who design, implement, and maintain IMS Data Language One (DL/I) databases.

Learning objectives

After completing this course, you should understand:

  • Code the database directories (DBDs) and program specification blocks (PSBs) for physical databases
  •  Code the DBDs and PSBs to implement secondary indexing
  • Use the appropriate IMS utilities to reorganize and recover physical databases, including those with secondary indexes
  • Use the DL/I test program
  • Prepare a job stream to load a database using any of the IMS access methods

If you successfully complete the course, you'll get a digital badge!

You'll need an IBM account to enroll in the course and a Credly account to accept the badge.
