Time for a tune up?
Check out the latest IMS course on IMS TM performance!
Why should you tune your IMS Transaction Manager system?
Performance monitoring and tuning is an ongoing process as workloads, number of transactions, hardware, software, and more change over time.
First, you’ll need to measure the impact on system resource limitations on transactions time-in-system.
Time-in-system is defined as the time the transaction is enqueued on the IMS input queue until the time the output message is sent back to the inputting terminal, to another terminal, or to a program.
You’ll need to establish base profiles for tuning comparisons and capacity planning. After you establish baselines, you can identify the resource bottlenecks that are causing the poor performance and reallocate resources to eliminate transaction processing delays.
What's in the course?
This course shows you a methodology to tune a large-scale z/OS IMS Transaction Manager (IMS TM) data communication system. Specifically, this course explains the impact of user-specified options on IMS performance, how to determine performance bottlenecks by interpreting information from performance reports, and how to implement a plan to improve the performance of an IMS system.
Prerequisites
This course is for IMS system programmers who are responsible for the performance of a large-scale IMS Database and Transaction Manager system.
Learning objectives
After completing this course, you should understand how to:
· Create and implement a performance improvement plan based on the methodology shown in this course
· Discuss the performance options available to the IMS user
· Describe flows of control in the VTAM and IMS Connect and TCPIP environments
· Describe the performance impact of the IMS storage pools and datasets and their interrelationships
· Interpret the information contained in performance reports
· Analyze the performance reports to determine performance bottlenecks in the IMS system
If you successfully complete the course, you'll get a digital badge!
You'll need an IBM account to enroll in the course and a Credly account to accept the badge.
