IBM® z/OS® 3.1 Is Coming

Get ready, IBM is about to unleash an AI-infused operating system for z/OS with its 3.1 release.  The new version will enable intelligent systems administration guidance and
automation that learns and improves.  IBM z/OS 3.1 will help clients scale the value of data powered by AI intelligent automation. Planned availability is 3^rd quarter 2023.

Below are features clients can expect to see:

• An AI-powered WLM (workload manager) which can predict upcoming batch workload and react accordingly to optimize zSystem resources.
• IBM SMF Explorer, a data access and analysis toolkit which will allow users to leverage Python and Jupyter Notebooks to access SMF data and extract insights easily.
• z/OS Container Extensions (zCX) offers improved performance and security with new features to support NFS, HTTPS, and IBM WebSphere® Hybrid Edition.
• Enhanced COBOL-Java™ interoperability for 31-bit COBOL applications to be extended to call 64-bit Java programs using the IBM Semeru Runtime Certified Edition for z/OS, Version 11 (Java).

Additionally, z/OS 3.1 will operate on z16 model A01 as well as z15® models T01 and T02.
