Matt Roberts on Integration Strategy and the Hybrid Future

By Maryam Sajid posted Tue September 30, 2025 03:46 PM

“Engage with experts to discover the latest innovations across the integration portfolio.”

The Speaker Spotlight Series continues to shine a light on the experts shaping the conversations at the IBM TechXchange 2025 Conference. Today, we are featuring Matt Roberts, leader of IBM’s Integration portfolio, who has been attending the TechXchange conference for years. For Matt, this is more than just a conference but a place where customers can step back and see the bigger picture. This is where they discover how integration is evolving through the hands of IBM in order to meet the demands of our ever-evolving hybrid world.

It’s the chance to get everybody all at once and share not only the vision but also the features we are delivering,” he states.

A Compass Session for the Integration Journey

Matt will be leading three sessions at this year's conference, including Turbocharge your Enterprise Security with the Latest Innovations in IBM DataPower Gateways and Unlock Speed and Agility for Integration Using Container-Native IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE). However, the one that really stands out as the anchor is The IBM Integration Portfolio - Strategy, Innovation, and Direction. This session is designed to be a high-level view meant to help attendees connect the dots between all these evolving ideas.

We’ll have deep dives into App Connect, DataPower, and Cloud Pak for Integration, but this session is the one that gives people the map,” Matt says.

This is a session that will truly help attendees navigate the conference and orient them towards the right deep dives. It will provide further context in regard to the larger vision and frames integration, not just as technology but as a strategic pathway.

Hybrid Cloud as the Glue

Ultimately, integration is about connection, connecting ideas across environments, across workloads, and across time.

Most organizations still run traditional on-premises systems alongside public cloud workloads in AWS or Azure. Integration is the glue that joins those together,” he notes

This “glue” has many forms, from APIs to events, messages, files and now hybrid deployment models. Above all, customers want flexibility and IBM Integration understands this. This means that we are focusing on not just having better products but also the ability to modernize without leaving critical systems behind.

Container-Native ACE: Rethinking Agility

The area Matt is most excited about is helping IBM's longtime customers modernize App Connect Enterprise (ACE). Customers have been deploying ACE in their particular environments for over a decade. His ACE session is a chance to reimagine this traditional setup.

The goal is to help people understand what a more agile, container-native view of the world looks like,” he explains. “The benefits in speed, responsiveness, and resilience become a real competitive differentiator compared to the old way of doing things.

By showcasing just how tech leaders are leveraging Kubernetes and OpenShift, Matt will be able to give attendees a deep look into how modernization delivers faster deployments, ultra-reliable systems, and integration strategies that are cohesive with business demand.

Making the Most of IBM TechXchange 2025

Matt’s advice to attendees is simple: plan ahead and be active. With 1000+ sessions and hundreds of speakers, attendees must decide what their priorities are and stick to them. Know where you want to go and what you want to ask.

Have your questions ready, and don’t leave without getting them answered,” he says

Everywhere you go there will be conversation. In the expo hall, at booths, and in informal meetups after sessions. That’s where knowledge becomes actionable.

Having been present at last year's IBM TechXchange conference and attending IBM conferences for over a decade, Matt has seen the conference evolve across cities and structures, from Las Vegas to San Francisco to Orlando. What keeps him coming back is the community it builds!
