I am delighted to announce IBM Virtual Dev and Test for z/OS (ZVDT) v1.0.0

ZVDT is the industry’s first and only virtual environment that runs current, genuine z/OS software and middleware on-premises Linux on zSystem. It has been developed in lock step with zSystem hardware, offering unmatched performance, application portability and compatibility. It runs without emulating the zSystem instruction set providing at least an order of magnitude better performance than ZD&T.

Like its siblings, ZVDT was designed to be used for development and early test of new application functions, as well as maintenance changes. Additionally, ZVDT can also be used for:

  • Unit tests, early integration, and functional tests
  • Investigation and verification of new middleware levels (version-to-version upgrades)
  • Prototyping new application architectures
  • Demonstration of application function
  • Internal employee education and training

ZVDT also offers a web-based interface to build and automate deployment of additional z/OS development and test environments on Linux on Z on-premises environments. Systems programmers can create z/OS custom images more quickly, with the security and control they demand. Developers and testers can auto-deploy these official images for development and test purposes with just a few clicks, giving them the autonomy and access that they need using hardware that can easily be virtualized, cloned, and reset.

We will start supporting Ubuntu Server LTS for IBM Z and LinuxONE 22.04, adding 18.04 and 20.04 later. Users of Red Hat will be pleased to hear we also intend to add support to RHEL for IBM Z & LinuxONE by second half of 2022.
Lastly, it's important to mention that like other offerings in this family, ZVDT also comes with our extended version of ADCD z/OS V2R5 December Edition of 2021. It will become available together with ZVDT general availability by July 17th and will offer among others:

  • z/OS V2R5
  • CICS V5.5 and V5.6
  • IMS V15.2
  • Db2 V12.1
  • MQ V9.2
  • Enterprise COBOL for z/OS V6.3
  • Enterprise PL/I for z/OS V5.3

ZVDT will be licensed by virtual CPs (RVUs) similarly to ZD&T and trade-up from ZD&T Enterprise Edition will be available by the general availability date. Please refer to the announcement or ZVDT product page for more details.

Hi,

My company currently has a z/PDT and also a zDD agreement.

I was wondering if ZVDT can be  included in the zDD agreement?
