Balancing Act: Managing operations in a Hybrid World

By Shannon Cardwell posted Fri April 08, 2016 07:00 AM

Today’s hybrid environment means merging traditional, on-premises software, applications, and infrastructure with hardware, software, and services both virtualized and in the cloud.

Sounds daunting right? You’ve got to keep your long-time legacy software running smoothly while also integrating efficiently into the new cloud applications your customers are directly interfacing with each day.  Not to mention they notice when it’s down immediately, which is a nightmare thanks to social media.  Customers have voices louder than they ever have before, which means your business can’t afford to have a slow or degrading application.

Then there’s the topic of security. Secure, successful exchange and use of APIs are critical for a company to encourage product innovation, grow its customer base, and reinvent business processes.  And it’s getting harder to maintain that security with the plethora of deployments options.

Legacy -> New -> Cloud -> On-prem -> Homegrown -> "As a service":

  • Middleware deployed across a hybrid environment,
  • Wrapped in the right suite of software management tools,
  • Help keep all those resources up, performing, and working together
  • Let you know in advance when conditions may lead to downtime

There may have been an “all for one” solution back in the day, but today is a hybrid world with every company operating with their own mix-matched environment. Whichever model your company is currently using, there is opportunity to drive efficiency through process and infrastructure optimization in order to provide fast application and service delivery while keeping costs low.

If you need to:

  1.   Collect and monitor IT and network events across your entire ecosystem.
  2.   Improve decisions by understanding operations data patterns and trends.
  3.   Automate your decision making.

IT Service Management has the tools that enable you to do this while providing visibility to act in real-time, not downtime. Are you operating in a Hybrid environment? Comment with how it's going.
