Introducing GX3 Kubernetes and OpenShift clusters with NVIDIA L4 GPUs
IBM is proud to announce GX3, a suite of NVIDIA L4 Tensor Core GPU flavors, as the newest addition of GPU profiles available with IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service (IKS) and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud (ROKS) clusters that run on IBM Cloud VPC.
With NVIDIA L4 GPUs, industries are achieving 2.5x better performance compared to the previous generation of GPUs for generative AI use cases. Creators are able to optimize graphics performance 4x higher to generate cinematic-quality graphics, scenes for virtual worlds, and cloud gaming.
IBM is one of the first to market with NVIDIA L4 GPU flavors for our managed containers services! More details can be found in this blog here.
IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service (IKS) 1.29 - is generally available in all regions today. Significant improvements were made to security, networking, and performance of the data plane and control plane. More details can be found in this blog here.
Migrate IKS to Tigera operator
The deployment model of Calico has been changed to use the Calico Operator which manages the lifecycle of Calico. This is the direction of the Calico community and opens IBM Cloud up to allow users to use Calico Enterprise in the future and potentially other CNI providers as well.
OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF) 4.14 GA
This update provides support for higher disk capacities and disk quantities per node to future-proofing your storage by handling large quantities of data to match with organization data growth requirements.
Faster RWO recovery in case of node failures to improve uptime and data availability.
Automatic space reclaiming for RBD persistent volume claims PVCs etc to efficiently use your existing storage.
Improve efficiency with non-resilient storage class option for persistent volumes for applications that already have internal resiliency logics by default.
IBM Cloud Terraform Enhancements
The IBM Cloud Terraform provider has been enhanced to provide a parameter on the cluster and worker pool resource to allow users to provide a predefined security group to attach to the workers when creating a worker pool, improving the ability for customers to develop automation around this capability. More details can be found here and here.
RedHat OpenShift on IBM Cloud & RedHat Telemetry integrations
OpenShift on IBM Cloud 4.14 clusters created after Feb 28 can now be registered with the OpenShift Cluster Manager in your Red Hat account. Once registered, you can work with all of your RedHat OpenShift on IBM Cloud, OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift cloud services clusters from a single dashboard to gain insights and recommendations for managing your clusters.
