Cool R12 Fallout Report

By Jenny Franklin posted Thu May 20, 2021 12:06 PM

I learned a while ago how to create a cool fallout report in R12 that showed all the details per object and shows the non-ABS values.  Shout out to @Chris Davidson for showing me this a long time ago!!  A few of the added tips at the bottom were provided by Cathy Carcillo back in the day as well. 🙌😊

Follow these steps to create your own!

  1. Go to the Cost Model and make sure you're in the Diagram View
  2. Click on an object once to select it (I personally started at the bottom with Cost Source)
  3. You'll see over to the left all of the spend details
  4. Right-click at the bottom of that table and select Copy to Clipboard
  5. Next, click New, Report to create a new report
  6. Remove the table that automatically pops in there by right-clicking and selecting Remove from Report
  7. Now click Paste All from your Report Clipboard
  8. Go to the Tabs ribbon and click on Tabs
  9. Drag the report you just pasted into the tabbed window
  10. Name it the name of the object (or abbreviate depending on how many objects are in your model)
  11. Repeat Step 2 through Step 10 for each object in your model
  12. Save often 😉

Ultimately, you will have a fallout report that has a tab for each object in your model.  I like this way because it shows the non-ABS numbers.

You can also filter on Cost to be !=0 and filter on Unassigned to be !=0 (just to see the actual fallout) and hit Save so those filters are set for each object's tab.

Another cool thing about this is that you can see additional information that will help with your fallout research/remediation.

You can do a Show/Hide Columns to pull in extra columns if you need them.

Now that you have your first tab created, here are a few tips - I use these a LOT!!

  • If you want to see what all is feeding a particular object, right-click, do a Show/Hide, and type in "(cost driver" without the quotes.
  • If you want to see where the dollars are sent after the object, right-click, do a Show/Hide, and type in "to:" without the quotes.

Next blog post will show how to view fallout for multiple months in one report (LINK).

I had been using the Unallocated option in the metric drop-down menu, but this offers unexpected possibilities.
Thanks, @Jenny Franklin!! 🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤
