Delivering on the Promise to Open Source with Zowe & IBM Service Management Unite
Delivering on that promise, IBM Service Management Unite (SMU), a systems management console that consolidates mainframe management, made a statement about exploitation of Zowe open source technology from the Open Mainframe Project to simplify and speed application development, deployment, and operations on IBM z/OS operating system
Today we are happy to share with you plans for IBM Service Management Unite (SMU) to leverage Zowe capabilities. IBM Service Management Unite is a systems management console that consolidates mainframe management information and tasks from disparate sources into a single environment.
SMU will be one of the first z/OS products to utilize Zowe's breakthrough technology.
How will this help you? Past internal lab tests have shown more than 50% reduction of steps for common scenarios, and with this release, we're adding similar improvements users take to identify, isolate, diagnose, and fix mainframe JCL problems when using SMU integration with ZOWE JES Explorer! The integration into Zowe will not only save additional time, but also improve the quality of work for seasoned SMEs and fresh-out Mainframe Operators and Developers. We believe new hires working with z/OS should be enabled to get started Day 1 of their new job role. For Junior Operators & Operations Managers, time is wasted constantly switching applications and using separate terminals to view job content.
To improve the isolation of environmental issues, SMU will integrate with Zowe JES Explorer to allow Operators and Developers to view any job content and job output without the need to switch the application or use a separate terminal emulator while looking at a problem reported by SMU automation or monitoring.
Similarly, SMU will use the Zowe's DataSet Explorer to drill-down in context, or directly navigate to most relevant datasets while isolating a problem. Operators and Automation Administrators no longer need to switch to another tool, type in text, or search for the dataset. They can view its contents in order to determine the root cause of an issue and then finally edit to fix to restore service.
