For students wanting to explore careers in enterprise computing & prepare for the future of work
Airbnb does not own rooms of their own and so are the biggest Service companies without servers of their own. How is this even possible? Well, welcome to industry 4.o, the age of AI, IoT, 5G and guess what Enterprise Computing! To run a an email service you only need to click a few buttons and you have your LPAR just large enough to serve your clientele and small enough to suit your budget while flexible to grow with your service demand! Does this mean we could reduce electronic waste by moving to enterprise computing? Absolutely yes! If one cloud computer could substitute hundreds of traditional servers, then we could likely reduce how much silicone that's seated out there hoping to be recycled some day upon retire! It's just amazing how much responsible tech or computing can change the world we live in today including reducing carbon emissions! Wouldn't it be great to teach children back home about this gospel? In fact with covid-19 surprise visit there would never be a better time to walk the course. Since children love tinkering, I thought if I could build simple robots with them they would learn tech and have fun at the same time. One thing I like about Robotics is how it blends hardware and software into one fabric and you can't take one away without ruining the fabric. That is how I founded RoboKid. Our objective is to impart fundamental tech skills in children by building fun DIY robots. According to research the highest form of learning is experiential as opposed. When a child builds their own robot and see it come to life the feeling is ecstatic and immeasurable. They feel like small gods! This is the experience of highest learning that never leaves their photographic memory. They carry this along with the lessons of algorithms that breathed life into their new born! A few schools here in Nairobi have invited us to run a Robotics club in their premises and we are at the stage of curating a curriculum for this amazing program.
