IBM z/OS 3.1, the newest version of z/OS, is built for the next generation of computing. With new and enhanced features, z/OS 3.1 is designed to optimize infrastructure with industry-popular interfaces, protect and thrive with exceptional security and resilience capabilities, for the future of industry’s most critical workloads.

Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF), a full-screen and menu-driven interface which lets you access z/OS tools and utilities, is familiar to everyone who interacts with z/OS. With z/OS 3.1, ISPF increases the ease of use for you.

ISPF PDSE V2 member generations enhancements

In z/OS 3.1 ISPF, member generations access and visibility have been improved in many areas. ISPF support for PDSE V2 member generations are enhanced to allow the specification of generation numbers in the Edit and View panels and on the Edit and Browse primary commands BROWSE, EDIT, and VIEW.

For example, the Edit, View, and Browse panels are updated for you to specify a PDSE generation. Both absolute and relative generation numbers are supported in the PDSE Generation field.

Additionally, a generation list can be viewed for members with generations, allowing the use of line commands to access commonly-used functions for desired generations. Select ISPF services are also enhanced with additional member generations information.

ISPF enhancement for Pervasive Encryption data set allocation

Support for Pervasive Encryption is improved in z/OS 3.1 by allowing the provision of the data set key label on the ISPF Allocate Data Set and Define Cluster panels.

The following 3 types of data sets can be encrypted:

  • Sequential

  • PDSEv2

  • VSAM

Case-insensitive sort for ISPF UNIX directory list

z/OS 3.1 now provides a simplified method of viewing large UNIX directory lists in ISPF. With this enhancement, you can sort the entries in the z/OS UNIX Directory List in a case-insensitive way (AaBbCc) and find specific files easier.

For more information on these enhancements, stay tuned for z/OS 3.1 ISPF publications.
