Oracle software is certified on Power11
On July 8, 2025 IBM announced the new Power11 systems (link to launch announce) which become generally available July 25th.
With the Power11 launch, Oracle products currently available on AIX 7.2 and 7.3 are fully certified and supported on Power11. This includes Oracle Database 19c, WebLogic Server, GoldenGate, PeopleSoft, E-Business Suite, JD Edwards, Siebel, Oracle Retail, Flexcube and many others.
How does this happen? Consistent with our technology relationship with Oracle and the proven compatibility that IBM Power delivers, Oracle continues to certify to the AIX version and support all hardware platforms IBM identifies as supported by those AIX versions. This means Oracle products on AIX 7.2, 7.3 are supported the day Power11 becomes generally available! To verify compatibility with AIX 7.2, 7.3 make sure to check support.oracle.com for your specific Oracle product versions or send an email to ibmoracle@us.ibm.com.
IBM and Oracle are tightly working together on DB 23ai
From engineering through executive levels in both IBM and Oracle we continue to collaborate to deliver Oracle DB 23ai on AIX. IBM has ramped up our investment in technical resources for both current Oracle products and 23ai specifically by assigning more engineers to work closely with Oracle resulting in the most focused effort on Oracle DB on AIX in our history.
We have concurrently increased the number of IBMers in our laboratories invested in enablement, performance tuning, testing, compiler optimization and other engineering activities to ensure that 23ai will meet our joint expectations for high-performance mission critical computing.
It’s not just IBM engineers working closely with Oracle but the IBM executive team is engaged as well. From the Power General Manager level to multiple CTOs and VPs, along with Partnership executives, they meet with Oracle to review status and plans, adjust investments and ensure engineers have everything they need to deliver the product. When Oracle releases the on-prem version of 23ai, it will be the most tested product in our joint 40-year history.
While Oracle makes the final decision on timelines and roadmaps for 23ai, Oracle has lengthened the support timeline for 19c on AIX, including AIX 7.3, securing a long future for current DB products on AIX. They have expanded Premier Support through 2029 and Extended Support through 2032.
We can’t disclose details of unannounced products, but we can point to examples in the past where Oracle has leveraged unique IBM Power (SMT-8, Live Partition Mobility, Active Memory Expansion, DLPAR, Shared Processor Pools, Live Kernel Update and more) capability bringing tremendous value to our joint customers. As we deliver new Power capabilities we will continue to work with Oracle to leverage those capabilities for optimized performance, availability, security, and integration with AI.
An example is our Ansible-based Oracle automation for Oracle installation and management which has seen double the downloads over 1H24, bringing value to thousands of our customers. Check them out! (Links can be found at the bottom of my previous Ansible blog.)
The future is exciting for our joint customers, and even Oracle has illuminated that future through their AIX support statement for 23ai. We are and will continue working together, for the success of our joint customers.
