The Red Hat Ansible Certified Content for IBM Z team developing the z/OS core collection has been incredibly busy! The team is excited to announce the release of THREE new collection versions now available! Per normal process, all our collections are first released on Ansible Galaxy, and then certified and supported on Ansible Automation Hub. Let’s go more in depth on what new features and enhancements you can expect in the three new collections.
IBM Ansible z/OS Core 1.6.0-beta.1 has released to Ansible Galaxy!
IBM Ansible z/OS Core 1.6.0-beta.1 is the latest beta release from the z/OS Core collection team, adding new modules, enhancements, and more for later certification and support in Automation Hub. This release includes the new zos_volume_init module which can initialize volumes or minidisks on target z/OS systems which includes creating a volume label and an entry into the volume table of contents (VTOC). Additionally this collection includes the following enhancements to existing modules:
- zos_blockinfile - supports double quotes in block content
- zos_data_set and zos_lineinfile - added new option force to able to remove a PDS/E member while the data set is in use.
- zos_job_query - supports positional wild cards throughout a job id or job name
- zos_tso_command - added a new max_rc to allow for non-zero return codes

IBM Ansible z/OS Core 1.5.0 has released to Ansible Automation Hub & Ansible Galaxy!
Lead developer of the z/OS Core collection Demetrios Dimatos(ddimatos@us.ibm.com) wrote the blog IBM Ansible z/OS Core 1.5.0 has released !!! which goes deeper into this collection release from the source. Check out his blog for addition details. Major highlights for this release include:
- the entire collection has been updated to no longer depend on System Display and Search Facility (SDSF)
- new module zos_gather_facts has been included
- more than half the collection’s modules have updates
- latest Z Open Automation Utilities (ZOAU) and IBM Enterprise Python dependencies are now supported

IBM Ansible z/OS Core 1.4.1 has released to Ansible Automation Hub & Ansible Galaxy!
Demetrios Dimatos also published a blog IBM Ansible z/OS Core 1.4.1 has released !!! for this release which can provide you more details. This release is an update to Ansible z/OS Core 1.4.0, which released 4 months ago, that delivers a number of updates for the zos_copy module. You can also expect updates to prerequisite versions supported as shown in the graphic below.
